heaven と paradise の違い

日本人には天国といってもあまり馴染みがなくって、どちらかというとドラゴンボールに出てくるような感じがしますが、ま、それは私だけかもしれませんね。

さて、天国といえば heaven。
ロックではおなじみです。

でも、paradise っていうのもあります。
ま、これもロックでおなじみですが、この二つってどう違うんでしょうね。

ちょいと英英辞典を見てみましょう。

まずは heaven から

the place where God is believed to live and where good people are believed to go when they die

In some religions, heaven is said to be the place where God lives, where good people go when they die, and where everyone is always happy. It is usually imagined as being high up in the sky.

どうでしょう。

死んだ時に善人が行くと信じられている場所。

そんな感じですね。

では、paradiseは？

in some religions, a perfect place where people are believed to go after they die, if they have led good lives

う～ん、なんとなく heaven と同じような感じですね。

ただ、個人的には heaven というと空にあっていわゆる天国というイメージの場所。

色のイメージとしては「白」で、宗教的なニュアンスがあります。

一方 paradise というと天国というよりは「楽園」「公園」という感じ。

こちらは花が咲き乱れたりしていて、カラフルな感じがします。

初めてハワイに行ったとき、着陸の時に機長が「welcome to paradise!!」と放送したのが印象的だったのですが、まさにパラダイスというとハワイのような感じです。
