今日の偉人はこちらです。
an Indian lawyer and politician who successfully led the fight for India’s independence from the British. Gandhi is famous especially for developing the idea of non-violent protest, and his methods have been copied in many other places. Gandhi wore very simple homespun clothes, including a loincloth, to support the Indian way of life. His real name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi but he was given the name ‘Mahatma’ (meaning ‘great soul’) by his followers. He was assassinated soon after India gained independence.

非暴力での抗議を進めた人であり、腰布をまいた質素な服を着ていました。
説明文では very simple homespun clothes と出てきました。
また、マハトマっていうのは great soul という意味だったんですね。
最後に、このコーナーで取り上げた偉人には多いのですが、最後は暗殺されてしまいます。
今後は世界一の大国になると言われているインド。
一度行ってみたい国ですが、できれば南インドの静かな方に行ってみたいと思っています。
